Peter Eisinger (BA, University of Michigan, 1964; PhD, Political
Science, Yale, 1969) is the Henry Cohen Professor at the Milano
Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy at The New School. He
teaches courses in the Political Economy of the City, Poverty and
Social Policy, Suburbanization, and various field-based research
seminars.
Prior to his appointment he was Professor of Urban Policy and Director
of the State Policy Center at Wayne State University and before that
he taught for nearly three decades at the University of Wisconsin. He
has been a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral
Sciences in Palo Alto and is currently a research affiliate of the
Institute for Research on Poverty at Wisconsin. He has held visiting
appointments at the University of Essex, Columbia University, and Brown
University. In 2002 he held a Distinguished Fulbright Chair at
Groningen University in the Netherlands. He is the author or co-author
of seven books, and numerous articles
and monographs on race, federalism and the cities, the local tourist
economy, homeland security, and other urban topics.
