
Adriana Abdenur is Assistant Professor of International Affairs at The New School. Albeit trained as an urban sociologist, she works across disciplinary lines, drawing on urban planning and geography. Her research spans geographic regions; presently she is conducting comparative research in Brazil, South Africa, the Middle East, and China.
Abdenur grew up in Brazil and mainland China before moving to the United States to attend university. She has also lived and worked on development projects in Ecuador, France, and Mozambique.

Abdenur is currently working on two main projects: The first examines urban land conflicts in Brazil; the second analyzes how cities in emerging markets vie to enhance local global links and thereby become gateway cities—regional business hubs.
