Gustav Peebles

PhD, University of Chicago
Associate Director of the Bachelor’s Program; Assistant Professor of Anthropology

Gustav Peebles received his PhD in Socio-Cultural Anthropology from the University of Chicago. His work aims to study present-day and historical European economic practices though the lens of Anthropology. In particular, he focuses on the relationships among the nation-state, everyday economic practices and the evolution of Economics as a discipline. A book currently under review studies this issue in the context of an attempt to build a “transnational city”, connecting Malmo, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark. Closer to home, Gustav has worked on the so-called “Atlantic Yards Project,” co-authoring a much-cited economic impact study of the transformational plan for Brooklyn.
